Engagement in the Process of Annual Evaluations and P&T

As of the 2016-17 AY, community-based activities are included in the Faculty Academic Information Reporting (FAIR) system. To review the latest inclusions to FAU’s FAIR definitions, see: .

One of the priorities set by FAU’s strategic plan for 2015–2025 is to enhance Community Engagement. As with all major initiatives at the University, the faculty play a critical role in helping to design policies and procedures to foster community engagement at FAU. Accordingly, in September 2015, the University Faculty Senate (UFS) established a Community Engagement Committee with representatives from each College.

The UFS Community Engagement Committee was charged with addressing several issues affecting the faculty and the University; among them, the inclusion of community-engaged work within the areas of teaching, research, and service in the University’s promotion and tenure guidelines. To this end, the committee worked with the Provost Office, the Undergraduate Research Curriculum Committee, and the UFS Promotion and Tenure Committee to develop several recommendations. These recommendations were presented to each of the eight College Assemblies for comments. After additional feedback and edits, the committee was unanimous in recommending modifications to the Provost Office “Principles for Creating Criteria and Standards for Promotion & Tenure” document. The changes were supported by the individual colleges and the Provost, and presented to the Faculty Senate on April 3rd, 2017. The revised document was approved by majority vote.
