The Jewish Cultural Society (JCS) at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» recently kicked off its fundraising season with a concert reminiscent of Klezmer musical performances of the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Aaron Kula's Klezmer Company Orchestra presented the concert titled "Klezmer: Traditional to Tango" at the Barry and Florence Friedberg Lifelong Learning Auditorium on the Boca Raton campus. The concert featured the Miami Klezmer Tango Project, which performed Yiddish songs, Freilachs and waltzes in an Argentinean tango style. KCO's seven-member core soloists played traditional Klezmer melodies in an American swing style. KCO is the professional ensemble-in-residence at FAU Libraries; the concert's selections were from the libraries' Jewish print music collection. JCS benefactors Stanley and Dottie Pierce of Boca Raton helped to sponsor the concert. The JCS organized in 2008 to advance Jewish cultural traditions and education at FAU and its libraries through philanthropic endeavors.
