Alexander Hamilton: Blood, Honor and Politics
FAUβs Department of History presents the lecture βAlexander Hamilton: Blood, Honor and Politics in Early Americaβ on Thursday, Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. at the S.E. Wimberly Library, fifth floor, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Presented by Adrian Finucane, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at FAU, the lecture will examine what drove U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr to fatally shoot his fellow revolutionary, Alexander Hamilton, on the banks of the Hudson River in 1804. The lecture explores the scandal, turmoil and violence that characterized political culture in the first decades of American government.
The lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition βThe Pen and the Pistol,β which is on display from Tuesday, Sept. 4 through Friday, Nov. 30 at the library. The exhibition explores the life of Hamilton, from his origins in the Caribbean to the present-day celebration of the smash-hit Broadway musical. Visitors will see original objects related to Hamilton from the Marvin and Sybil Weiner Spirit of America collection, which is housed at the library.
