and announced a $1 million gift today from Daniel Cane, CEO and co-founder of , and his wife, Debra Cane. The gift will establish The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies at Henderson/FAU High, which will serve as the school’s epicenter for research, education and technology transfer.

“We are so very grateful for the Cane’s generous gift to A.D. Henderson University School and FAU High School,” said Joel Herbst, Ed.D., assistant dean, PK-12 Schools and Educational Programs at FAU. “For an entrepreneur like Mr. Cane to recognize our unique educational platform and delivery model as a worthy program to invest in and understand the school’s potential to transform public education, serves as significant third-party validation.”

The Cane’s gift marks the first for the A.D. Henderson and FAU High School’s capital campaign, “Let’s Build This Together.” This campaign aims to coalesce private and public support to construct a new, state-of-the-art facility for the Henderson/FAU High complex to further enhance a world-class educational model. In particular, this gift will support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education at the Title 1 school.

The Institute’s integrated approach will allow students and faculty at the high school to explore today’s most complex challenges in arenas such as cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality, automation and artificial intelligence.

“The quality of education that the faculty and staff at Henderson and FAU High provide will prepare our children and other students for a lifetime of success,” said . “This gift will build on the already stellar program and hopefully encourage other parents and supporters of STEM and public education to contribute and help raise the profile of South Florida’s world-class schools.”

In 2010, Cane co-founded Modernizing Medicine, a healthcare IT company that is revolutionizing the way in which healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized to increase practice efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
